Mary Rizos is a photojournalist interested in documenting cultures and communities in the U.S. and abroad. She will most likely combine her photojournalism projects with teaching high school Spanish, and spending any available free time traveling, talking to strangers, and expecting inspiration to strike any minute!
Marie Novakova is a TV and radio journalism student of Charles University in Prague. While she concentrates on her studies, she also teaches Czech to foreign students at The
Czech Language Training Center. She fell in love with Missoula, especially with Free Cycles Community Shop and big milky Americano coffees, which she got addicted to.
Being in the right place at the right time is something Vendula Krizova wishes for her in work as a video reporter. She works for an Internet daily and studies theory about media at Charles University in Prague, a combination which is sometimes a double-edged sword. She keeps her brain fresh and organized by regular running or cycling. She loves Missoula and Prague too, of course.
Alice Tejkalova decided to be a journalist at the age of 12 when she realized that people read what she wrote :-). Since that time she has pursued her dream, hesitating just for a while when she considered being a doctor. But watching a surgery confirmed her wish to be a journalist. Now she's studying for her Ph.D. in Media Studies and works as a freelance journalist. She loves good books, taking pictures, sport and handsome athletes :-)
Sean Breslin is a rock star journalist in training and the editor of the Montana Kaimin, the University of Montana's student-run newspaper. A senior in print journalism at the UM, Breslin is a gentleman and a scholar by all accounts except those of the people who truly know him.
Martin Brodsky is majoring in media studies at Charles University in Prague. He comes originally from the city of Plzen, which lies about 60 miles southwest of Prague, where he is a proud member of the Pilsner Urquell fan club. He wants to work in a marketing or PR department. His goal is to earn so much money that he is able to retire at the age of 40, move back to Missoula, buy a house near the lake and do nothing else than fish, waterski and eat burgers from Burger King.
Ales Kosina is a home-town boy from South City, the biggest suburb in Prague, Czech Republic. He hopes to receive his master's degree in media studies at Charles University in January 2008.
Ashley McKee, photojournalist, is ready to flee Missoula, the town she grew up in. Her quest is to get back to Prague to teach English or work for The Prague Post, the English-language weekly. For the next few years she won't take life terribly seriously and try to travel as much as possible and meet new people. While doing all of this planning she will continue to take pictures and do some day work as a documentary photographer on minority culture issues
A graduate of the University of Montana, Zach Franz has recently discovered an affinity for Czech beer and Indian tacos.
Israel Tockman has crawled down from his fire lookout to study journalism at the University of Montana. He hopes to spend many more hours discussing hedgehogs and radical politics in Klub Ujezd, Prague 1. He enjoys playing old-time banjo and shaking ripe cherries from trees. His dream is to pursue more international journalism projects.
Jan Krecek operates the swankiest bar in Prague. His dream is to change the Czech Republic into the Cuban Republic so that he can smell the combined fumes of ripe lemons, petrol, tobacco and hope for the future. If he could be reincarnated as a wild animal, he would be a hamster or kangaroo. He is a scorpio and participated in his first political protest at age 13. Oh, and he is a professor of media studies at Charles University and co-director of this project.
Charlie Hood is an emeritus professor and former dean of The University of Montana journalism school. He returned last year to the scene of his crimes and misdemeanors to co-direct, with his Czech counterpart, this exchange project. He’s worked as a teacher and journalist in Montana and the Czech Republic.
